Abstract:
A method in a user equipment for handling cell selection is provided. While in dedicated mode the user equipment receives from a radio network node a measurement information message which indicates at least two frequencies associated with a respective cell in a respective radio access technology. While it is in dedicated mode, the user equipment performs measurements on the frequencies to obtain a respective measurement value for each one of them, and receives a selection indicator message comprising a respective priority for each one of the frequencies. The user equipment obtains a respective threshold value for each of the frequencies and successively evaluates the frequencies in descending priority order until a frequency is determined for which the measurement value exceeds its respective threshold value. When entering idle mode, the user equipment selects cell based on the evaluation.

The present invention relates to a 2G controlling entity (104) in a common 2G/3G network, wherein the common 2G/3G network comprises a common Core Network, CN, (102) connected to the 2G controlling entity (104) further 5 connected to dual mode mobile stations and to a 3G controlling entity (106) further connected to dual mode mobile stations, the 2G controlling entity (104) comprises means for applying (301) a 3G camping strategy and means for receiving a service request for a service at least supported by the 2G network performed by a dual mode mobile station. The 2G controlling entity 10 (104) comprises means for instructing (303) the dual mode mobile station when connected to the 2G network to perform cell reselection evaluation of 3G network cells (110) only when the 2G network (108) signal strength is below a predetermined threshold. The present invention also relates to a method and to a common 2G/3G network.

The present invention relates to a method for co-ordination of uplink scrambling codes between different radio network controllers (21) and the assignment of such codes to radio connections (27) of user equipments (26) in a code division multiple access (CDMA) communication system. The invention also relates to methods for creating a starting vector used to generate said scrambling codes. According to the invention, a unique subset of scrambling codes is dedicated to each radio network controller (21) by assigning an offset vector (212). Initial starting vectors (215) are composed by concatenating the offset vector (212) and the binary representation of a determining value (216) within the size range of the dedicated code subset. An idle starting vector is selected, e.g., by using a one-dimensional array (217) containing a status bit for each scrambling code and by using the array index (213) as determining value (216).
