Abstract:
A system and method is provided whereby signaling traffic over a reverse control channel (90) is estimated and one or more selected types of registration messaging, such as power up registrations, power down registrations, roaming registrations or periodic registrations, are disabled in response to the estimated signaling traffic exceeding a first threshold. The one or more selected types of registration messaging may be subsequently enabled after a certain amount of time has expired or in response to the estimated signaling traffic over the reverse control channel (90) falling below a second threshold. The process of disabling and enabling the selected types of registration messaging may be repeated in cycles until the signaling traffic over the reverse control channel (90) reaches an acceptable level.
Abstract:
A method, system, and apparatus enables lower priority (e.g., access response) messages (625) to be transmitted instead of higher priority (e.g., paging) messages (615) when the lower priority messages become too backlogged in an environment (1, 2) in which the two types of messages share a given capacity. In other words, when an overload situation is detected (510, 715, 750), the shared capacity is regulated by ensuring that the lower priority messages (625) have at least some bandwidth. For example, if (i) the lower priority messages (625) reach a predetermined number (715A) or (ii) a particular lower priority message (625) has been waiting a predetermined period of time (715B), then at least a portion of the higher priority messages (615) are diverted (e.g., delayed or deleted) (515, 735). In one embodiment (6A), the higher priority messages (615) that are initially diverted (735) are a lowest priority (605) subset of the higher priority messages (615). In another embodiment (68), a highest priority (620) subset of the lower priority messages (625) are transmitted (740) first as capacity is made available.
Abstract:
The present invention is related to a method and arrangement in a radio communication system for performing a message transfer transaction in which at least one message is transferred in at least one frame from a first unit to a second unit. Properties of radio signals exchanged between the first unit and the second unit are measured (501). A mode of informing the first unit of frame receipt status at the second unit during the message transfer transaction is selected (502) based on the measured radio signal properties. The at least one frame is transferred (503) from the first unit to the second unit while the first unit is informed of the frame receipt status at the second unit in accordance with the selected mode of informing.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to an arrangement for interconnecting a first communication system and a second communication system wherein the second communication system is a cordless access system. The first communication system is a cellular mobile communication system and the interconnecting arrangement comprises an interworking function (IWF) which via an existing interface of the first communication system is connected to a Mobile Switching Centre of the first communication system and which via an interface of the second communication system is connected to an access system of the second communication system. The invention also relates to an interconnected system comprising a first and a second communication system wherein the first communication system is a cellular mobile communication system and the second system a cordless access communication system wherein the systems are interconnected via an interworking function (IWF).
