    Abstract: El terminal de abonado (SS) en un lado del terminal de abonado (SS) de un sistema de comunicación (SYS) que incluye en el lado de la red (NS) un sistema de comunicación de datos por paquetes (SGSN, GGSN, Fig. 1) que tiene un sistema de estación base (BSC, BTS; BSS, RLC), para realizar una transferencia de datos por paquetes entre dicho lado del terminal de abonado (SS) y dicho sistema de estación base (BSC, BTS; BSS, RLC) en dicho lado de la red (NS), que comprende: a1) medios (SS-TR) adaptados para proporcionar un enlace de comunicación radio (UL, DL; por ejemplo, Fig. 2, Fig. 4c, Fig. 9; Um) entre dicho sistema de estación base (BSC, BTS; BSS, RLC) en dicho lado de la red (NS) y dicho lado del terminal de abonado (SS); a2) medios (SS-TR) adaptados para proporcionar los recursos de radio (TS), para ser usados para dicha transferencia de paquetes de usuario, en dicho enlace de comunicación de radio (UL, DL; por ejemplo Fig. 2, Fig. 4c, Fig. 9; Um); a3) un controlador de conexión física (LC-CTRL; MAC) adaptado para proporcionar una conexión física (TBF), para realizar dicha transferencia de paquetes de datos de usuario, en dicho enlace de comunicación de radio entre dicho sistema de estación base (BSS) y dicho lado del terminal de abonado (SS) programando (MAC) dichos paquetes de datos de usuario como un número de bloques de radio (RLC/MAC) en dichos recursos de radio (TS) en dicho enlace de comunicación radio, dicha conexión física (TBF) que indica en el lado del terminal de abonado (SS) y el lado de la red (NS) que el lado de terminal de abonado (SS) y el lado de la red (NS) están incluidos en el proceso de planificación de los recursos de radio a3) para realizar dicha transferencia de paquetes de datos de usuario; b1) un detector de transmisión (TDET1) que incluye un detector de periodo activo (AP-DET) adaptado a monitorizar (ST82), para una transferencia de paquetes de datos de usuario entre dicho lado de la red (NS) y dicho lado del terminal de abonado (SS), el tiempo inter-llegada (TDIFF) de los paquetes de datos de usuario (DP) para ser transferidos en dichos bloques de radio (RLC/MAC) programados en dichos recursos de radio en dicho enlace de comunicación radio (Um) por dicho controlador de conexión física (LC-CTRL) y para b2) determinar como periodo activo (AP) el periodo desde un primer paquete de datos de usuario (DP1) a un último paquete de datos de usuario (DPn) para el que cada tiempo inter-llegada monitorizado (TDIFF) cae en una zona predeterminada (TRA); y c) dicho controlador de conexión física (LC-CTRL) que incluye además un dispositivo de mantenimiento de la conexión física (LC-MAIN) adaptado para mantener (ST85) dicha conexión física (TBF) entre dicho lado de terminal de abonado (SS) y dicho lado de la red (NS) en dicho periodo activo (AP).

    Abstract: In a communication system (SYS) in which a packet data transfer is performed between a network side (NS) and a subscriber terminal side (SS) a physical connection (PC) is maintained during the data packet transfer. In association with each transferred data packet (DP) a transmitter queue length information (CV) is transmitted to a network controller (NC) on the network side (NS). On the basis of the received length information (CV) a network side transmission resources controller (SCH-RES) determines transmission resources (TS) for the data packet transfer on the uplink connection (UL) in the next uplink frame such that at least one data packet (DP) remains in the subscriber terminal side transmitter buffer queue (TR-QUE) during an active period of the application. Since at least one data packet is always present in the transmitter queue (TR-QUE) unnecessary physical connection releases can be avoided. In addition to adjusting the transmission resources on the basis of the received length information, the controller (SHC-RES) can also estimate the arrival rate of data packets in the transmitter queue (TR-QUE) and can make the assignment of resources dependent on the determined arrival rate (AR). The invention finds particular application in the GPRS/(E)GPRS/GSM environment.
