Abstract:
The invention relates to a method and a device for controlling frequency selection within a wireless communication system in response to radar-like interference signals. The method comprises continuously or quasi-continuously monitoring and assessing a plurality of frequencies with respect to a radar-like interference signal and allocating a quality parameter to each assessed frequency, the quality parameter indicating the probability that the frequency is occupied. The method further comprises selecting one or more frequencies in dependence on the allocated quality parameters and subsequent frequency monitoring.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for demodulating a received communication signal employing coherent demodulation and decision-directed channel estimation are disclosed that have a significant gain compared to a receiver employing noncoherent demodulation. This is particularly so for spread spectrum communication systems such as the uplink specified by the TIA/EIA/IS-95 mobile communication standard, in which an orthogonal modulation scheme combined with convolutional coding and interleaving is used. The coherent demodulation methods and apparatus do not require a pilot signal, and thus can be used in communication systems that are originally designed for use of noncoherent demodulation.

Un método para retransmitir un bloque de información (40) que fue reconocido negativamente y que fue transmitido previamente utilizando un primer tipo de modulación y un primer tipo de codificación de FEC que 5 comprende las etapas de: (a) seleccionar al menos uno de un segundo tipo de modulación diferente del citado primer tipo de modulación y un segundo tipo de codificación de FEC diferente del citado primer tipo de codificación, para crear un esquema de procesamiento de retransmisión; (b) procesar el citado bloque de acuerdo con el citado esquema de procesamiento de retransmisión; y (c) retransmitir el citado bloque procesado pero continuando con la transmisión de otros bloques utilizando el citado primer tipo de modulación y el primer tipo de codificación de FEC.

A method of demodulating voice or data and control information in systems that support multiple modulation schemes modulates voice or data using a first linear modulation scheme, such as 16QAM modulation scheme, and modulates control information using a second linear modulation scheme, for example, QPSK modulation scheme, that has the same symbol rate as that of the first modulation scheme. The first linear modulation scheme has a higher modulation level than the second linear modulation scheme. Information modulated using the second linear modulation scheme, which uses a reduced signal set of the first linear modulation scheme, are demodulated using the same demodulator that is used for demodulating information modulated using the first linear modulation scheme. Also, in-band signalling information within a traffic channel, such as stealing flags, are modulated using the second modulation scheme.

Un método en un sistema de comunicaciones inalámbrico para proporcionar información de temporización para una señal de transmisión recibida, que comprende - correlacionar una o más partes de la señal de transmisión recibida con una señal de instrucción cuantificada para obtener uno o más resultados de correlación; y - determinar la información de temporización en base a los resultados de correlación; - detectar falsa alarma en base a la energía de una señal contenida dentro de una ventana de tiempo de la señal de transmisión recibida; - obtener uno o más resultados de correlación en forma de respuestas de impulsos estimadas de canal ([.]), caracterizado porque la energía de señal de respuesta de impulsos de canal contenida en la respectiva ventana de tiempo de la señal de transmisión recibida está determinada por cada instante de temporización posible, el paso de determinar la información de temporización en base a los resultados de la correlación comprende determinar la ventana de tiempo que contiene la energía máxima de señal (E_win,max), y la detección de falsa alarma se basa en la energía máxima de señal.

When connection quality drops below an acceptable threshold, ARQ techniques use an alternative modulation/coding scheme which is more resistant to noise and/or interference. Flexible resegmentation and mapping of information blocks is supported.

The inventive method comprises the steps of providing a training signal on the receiver side relating to a known signal portion of the transmit signal, scaling the training signal, quantizing the scaled training signal, correlating one or more parts of the received transmit signal with the scaled training signal to obtain one or more correlation results, and determining the timing information on the basis of the correlation results. Based on a signal energy within a time window of the received transmit signal incorrect timing information is detected.

In order to correct frequency deviations of signals in a multicarrier system, such as a OFDM-system, the present invention provides a frequency tracker and a method to operate the same. The frequency tracker is based on a decision directed digital phase locked loop exhibiting a predictive character. On the basis of an estimated phase offset for a received signal (signal component, signal symbol) a predicted phase offset is calculated and applied to the signal (signal component, signal symbol). Further, received signals (signal components, signal symbols) are sampled and for each sample a sample phase offset to be corrected is calculated in dependence to the related estimated phase offset to incorporate the predictive character. In particular, the predicted sample phase offsets are calculated as a function of a corresponding predicted phase offset and a measure being indicative of a distance, in the time domain, between a corresponding phase reference point for the predicted phase offset and a phase reference point defined for a specific part of the received signal, preferably for a preceding preamble signal.
