Interoperability is achieved between wireless user communication devices that have different speech processing formats and/or attributes. A first wireless user communication device includes a primary speech codec that encodes a first speech message using a first speech encoding format. The encoded speech is then sent to a second wireless user communications device that includes a primary speech codec supporting a second speech encoding format. The first user device receives from the second user device a second speech message encoded using the second speech encoding format. The second speech message is then decoded by the first user device using a second speech decoder supporting decoding of the second speech encoding format. But the first communication device does not support speech encoding using the second speech encoding format-regardless of whether the first communication device includes or does not includes an encoder for encoding speech using the first speech encoding format.

Perceptually relevant non-speech information can be preserved during encoding of an audio signal by determining whether the audio signal includes such information (122, 124, 125). If so, a speech/noise classification of the audio signal is overriden (43) to prevent misclassification of the audio signal as noise.

A multi-codebook fixed bitrate CELP signal block encoder/decoder includes a codebook selector (22) for selecting, for each signal block, a corresponding codebook identification in accordance with a deterministic selection procedure that is independent of signal type. Speech frames of a first speech coding scheme are utilized (210) as speech frames of a second speech coding scheme, where the speech coding schemes use similar core compression schemes for the speech frames, preferably bit stream compatible. An occurrence of a state mismatch in an energy parameter between the first speech coding scheme and the second speech coding scheme is identified (216), preferably either by determining (214) an occurrence of a predetermined speech evolution, such as a speech type transition, e.g. an onset of speech following a period of speech inactivity, or by tentative decoding of the energy parameter in the two encoding schemes followed by a comparison. Subsequently, the energy parameter in at least one frame of the second speech coding scheme following the occurrence of the state mismatch is adjusted (218). The present invention also presents transcoders and communications systems providing such transcoding functionality.
Abstract:
An originating network, such as an originating wireless communication network, selectively performs multimedia content transcoding of outgoing multimedia messages as a function of the corresponding destination network addresses. More particular, in an exemplary embodiment, the originating network includes or has access to one or more databases that are accessed to determine whether transcoding is desired. Such information may comprise a listing of destination addresses, e.g., email addresses, or particular domain identifiers, for which transcoding is desired. Moreover, such information can indicate whether default or specific transcoding formats should be used. With this approach, the originating network can transcode all, or selected multimedia content, e.g., audio, video, etc., into one or more coding formats that known or expected to be compatible with the coding formats used by the targeted destination networks.

De conformidad con una modalidad de ejemplo de la presente invención, se describe un método y un aparato del mismo para controlar un método de ocultación para una trama de audio perdida de una señal de audio recibida. Un método para un decodificador de ocultación de una trama de audio perdida comprende detectar en una propiedad de la señal de audio anteriormente recibida y reconstruida, o en una propiedad estadística de pérdidas de trama observadas, una condición para la cual la sustitución de una trama perdida provee calidad relativamente reducida. En el caso de que se detecte una condición de este tipo, el método de ocultación se modifica ajustando selectivamente una fase o una magnitud de espectro de un espectro trama de sustitución.

L'invention concerne un procédé, un décodeur et un code de programme pour commander un procédé de dissimulation pour une trame audio perdue. Une première trame audio et une seconde trame audio d'un signal audio reçu sont décodées pour obtenir des coefficients de transformée en cosinus discrète modifiée (mdct). Des valeurs d'une première forme spectrale basées sur les coefficients mdct décodés à partir de la première trame audio décodée et des valeurs d'une seconde forme spectrale basées sur des coefficients mdct décodés à partir de la seconde trame audio décodée sont déterminées, les formes spectrales comprenant chacune un certain nombre de sous-bandes. Les valeurs des formes spectrales et des énergies de trame de la première trame audio et de la seconde trame audio sont transformées en représentations d'analyses spectrales basées sur des fft. Une condition transitoire est détectée sur la base des représentations des fft. En réponse à la détection de la condition transitoire, le procédé de dissimulation est modifié par réglage sélectif d'une amplitude de spectre d'un spectre de trame de substitution.
