Abstract:
Method and arrangement for protecting optical network systems, the arrangement (20) is based on an optical electrical optical GPON repeater structure. The repeater structure contains two optical modules—a regular ONU transceiver module and a reset-less OLT transceiver module which are working back-to-back. For management purposes, an ONU MAC module comprised in the repeater structure is intercepting the electrical signals from the ONU transceiver. The arrangement comprising the two repeater structures can be used to relay data between two passive optical network (PON) systems thereby opening a way to implement dual homing via the PON domain. Moreover, the arrangement is configured to enabling switch-over of functionality from one PON to the other PON at a communication failure in the former PON.

The method involves use of a single burst I/O N-point complex FFT kernel for baseband processing of receive and transmit signal blocks, where the processing involves simultaneously performing a respective FFT or IFFT of two N-sample signal blocks.

The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for determining power provided by network terminals (103) to a common network node (101). The method comprises the steps of measuring (S201) power received per time unit from each individual network terminal, determining (S202) channel power loss per time unit of each individual network terminal and determining (S203) power provided per time unit by each individual network terminal by adding, to the power received per time unit from said each individual network terminal, the corresponding channel power loss per time unit. Further, the method comprises the steps of measuring (S204) power consumption per time unit of the network node caused by each individual network terminal and determining (S205) net power per time unit provided by each individual network terminal by taking into account the network node power consumption per time unit caused by said each individual network terminal and the power provided per time unit by said each individual network terminal.
