Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method to effectively read out the cross section of the groove edge of the edge section of a spectacle frame and a pointer to carry out this method. SOLUTION: In the method to read out the cross section of the groove edge 10 of the edge section 11 of a spectacle frame at least at one point above the edge section 11, with the position of a movable pointer 12 left capable of being defined using a specified coordinate system RT, the movable pointer 12 is moved following the groove edge 10. At least two different points on at least one side face 13 or 13' out of the side faces 13 and 13' of the groove edge 10 are visually confirmed in order to obtain the coordinate value of these points. The cross section of the groove edge 10 thus read out is used for trimming the lens to be secured in this groove edge 10.

After the trimming machine has made a copy of the template the corresponding measurement is actually D(2) = D(1) + Y; Y being the trimming machine error. The profile reader is then used to measure the dimension on the copy made and the reading taken is D(3) = D(2) + X. It is known that X the profile reader error is substantially constant and this allows both the profile reader and trimming machine errors to be determined.

Abstract: A method of providing finishing parameters related to an ophthalmic lens adapted to a spectacle frame begins by providing generic finishing parameters (GFP) for an ophthalmic lens adapted to a spectacle frame, the generic finishing parameters (GFP) being associated to a first identifier (ID1). Next a request (REQ1) from a distant entity, indicating an association between said first identifier ID1 and a second identifier (ID2) assigned to the chosen finishing entity (CFE) is received. Then the method generates specific finishing parameters (SFP) for a chosen finishing entity (CFE) by associating the generic finishing parameters (GFP) with specific parameters corresponding to the chosen finishing entity (CFE). Next a second request (REQ2) associated with at least the first identifier (ID 1) is received based upon which the specific finishing parameters (SFP) are sent to the chosen finishing entity (CFE).

The server (SER), upon reception of a piece of information (DOC2) indicating an association between the first and second identifiers, is arranged for compiling a computer document (ORD(ID1-ID2)) including at least a part of the first and second sets of data for enabling the edition of an order form.
