Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide the progressive lens for ophthalmology with a front surface including a center zone as an optically effective zone which is progressively variable in curvature along at least part of at least one meridian surface and successive peripheral connection zones which surround the center zone and are connected to the center zone in a tangential direction. CONSTITUTION: The optically effective center zone 14 on the front surface 11A of the progressive lens 10 for ophthalmology is limited by a closed curve which is oval on the whole while projecting onto a plane perpendicular to the geometric axis of an assembly. Then the radius of curvature of the radial section of the peripheral connection zone 15 varies in value and/or sign in the circumferential direction so that the thickness of the lens becomes nearly equal along the peripheral edge part 13.
