Abstract: The appts. has a controllable light source situated close to the eye (3) and a sighting system (13) allowing the image of the cornea to be centered on a magnifying lens (6), to facilitate the measurement of its size. The light source has two diametrically opposed luminous points w.r.t. the optical axis of the eye. These points occupy successive positions by rotating about the above axis. A rotating prism is synchronised with the luminous points to continuously provide images that are reflected from the cornea and 'seen' by the magnifying lens (6) against a line of measuring photodiodes. These photodiodes (7) give a signal proportional to the size of the image, and activate a display yielding max. and min. measurement values. An optical encoder (9), synchronised with the rotation of the prism, indicates the angular position of the luminous points to detect successive meridians of the cornea being scanned by the luminous points.
