Abstract: Peroxyformic acid compositions for removal of biofilm growth and mineral deposits on membranes are disclosed. In particular, peroxyformic acid compositions are generated in situ or on site generation for the reduction and prevention, of biofilms and the mitigation of mineral buildup on the membranes. The compositions according to the invention are compatible with the membranes under application of use conditions.

Abstract: A calibration material may be used to calibrate an optical sensor to help ensure that the optical sensor produces accurate measurements. In some examples, the calibration material may be used to calibrate both turbidity measurements made by an optical sensor and fluorometric measurements made by the same optical sensor. The calibration material may be an aqueous mixture that includes water in an amount greater than 70 percent by weight of the composition, inorganic, water-insoluble, light-scattering particles, and a viscosity modifier in an amount effective to maintain the inorganic, water-insoluble, light-scattering particles in suspension in the composition. The composition can be non-fluorescing when exposed to ultraviolet light. In addition, in some applications, the composition is formulated of food safe ingredients, allowing the composition to be used in facilities that process consumable foods and beverages.

Abstract: Peroxycarboxylic acid compositions comprising compatible ionic compounds to deliver conductivity signals to enable monitoring of the peroxycarboxylic acid concentration by conductivity when diluted for use are disclosed. Methods of measuring peroxycarboxylic acid concentration by conductivity are also disclosed. Beneficially, conductivity measurement allows a user to determine concentration of the peroxycarboxylic acid at a point of use without cumbersome titration steps to determine the concentration providing various benefits at an application of use.

Abstract: Disclosed are membrane separation cleaning processes and clean in place compositions for such membranes. The cleaning compositions can remove proteins, fats, and other food, beverage, and brewery based soils and offer an environmentally friendly alternative surfactant system to NPE. Branched extended chain PO/EO nonionic surfactants with certain characteristics may be used to provide superior cleaning to membranes. The specific surfactants may be used alone or in combination. In some embodiments, the surfactant package is used as part of a cleaning composition.

Abstract: A catalyzed highly alkaline cleaning composition for cleaning stainless steel and other surfaces, namely those treated in clean-in-place processes, is disclosed. The composition comprises gluconic acid or salt thereof (e.g. gluconate) to serve as a corrosion and stain inhibitor for the high alkalinity compositions. The composition retains the cleaning and corrosion prevention properties of conventional clean-in-place solutions while being less expensive to produce.
