    Abstract: A bypass circuit centrifuge (160) for separating particulate matter out of a circulating liquid includes a hollow and generally cylindrical centrifuge bowl (197) which is arranged in combination with a base plate (198) so as to define a liquid flow chamber. A hollow centertube (177) axially extends up through the base plate into the hollow interior of the centrifuge bowl. The bypass circuit centrifuge is designed so as to be assembled within a cover assembly (166) and a pair of oppositely disposed tangential flow nozzles (202, 203) in the base plate are used to spin the centrifuge within the cover so as to cause particles to separate out from the liquid. The interior of the centrifuge bowl includes a plurality of truncated cones which are arranged into a stacked array (207) and are closely spaced so as to enhance the separation efficiency.

    Abstract: A fuel filter (20) constructed with a heater (30) and designed for fuel-water separation includes a unitary housing (21) which is closed by a threaded lid (22). A surrounding sidewall defines an interior space (68) with a water collection area (65). A filter cartridge including a filter element (72), centertube (71), and top and bottom endplates (75, 78) is disposed in the interior space (68). The lid (22) includes snap-fit fingers (76) arranged for press-on attachment to the top endplate (75). A heater ring (30) is provided and is positioned around the filter cartridge (64). The heater ring (30) provides a flow path for entering fuel and positive-temperature-coefficient stones (138) which assist in heating the fuel. Control of the heater ring (30) is provided by a heater connector and thermostat combination (26). A drain valve (24) is mounted to the housing (21) in flow communication with the water collection area (65). A water-in-fuel sensor (25) is mounted to the housing and extends into the water collection area (65).
