Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel filter capable of filtering fuel, and discharging fuel additive agent into the fuel at a controlled speed. SOLUTION: This fuel filter includes fuel additive agent 42 to be discharged into fuel. A discharge speed to fuel is controllable. The fuel additive agent 42 is positioned inside an inner chamber 40 to be constantly fluid-communicated with fuel in the filter through an opening part limited by a baffle plate 50 and/or a diffusion orifice 44. In a modified example, the opening part after the inner chamber can be controlled by a thermostat for limiting flow of fuel to the fuel additive agent 42. In the mode of the modified example, the fuel additive agent can be discharged substantially at a constant speed for uniformly maintaining the level of the fuel additive agent in the fuel. In this invention, a fuel filter of a longer life than a fuel filter representatively used in a fuel engine can be provided.

Abstract: A pressure gradient dosing system is provided for a fluid supply system. A flow passage has first and second pressure zones having a pressure gradient therebetween. An additive reservoir in an additive delivery system responds to the pressure gradient to release additive to the flow passage.

Abstract: The present invention relates generally to a fuel filter for use with internal combustion engines, for example, but not limited to diesel engines in commercial vehicles. The fuel filter includes a fuel additive that can be released into fuel. The rate of release for the fuel can be controlled. One embodiment of the fuel filter is illustrated in FIG. 1. The fuel additive (42) is provided in an inner chamber (40) and maintained in fluid communication with the fuel in the filter via an opening restricted by baffle plate(s) 50 and/or a diffusion orifice (44). In alternative embodiments, the opening into the inner chamber can be thermostatically controlled to limit fuel flow to the fuel additive. In alternative forms the fuel additive can be released at a substantially constant rate to maintain a uniform level of fuel additive in the fuel. Use of the present invention provides a fuel filter having an extended life span that is longer than fuel filters typically used with combustion engines.
