    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust treating filter having an enhanced efficiency for arrangement. SOLUTION: The exhaust post-processing filter has a housing 22 between first and second ends 30 and 32 along the direction of an axis 28. The housing 22 has first and second ports 34 and 36 at the same first end. One of the ports is an inlet and the other an outlet. The housing 22 has an intermediate area 38 of a cross-sectional area A1 on the vertical plane of the axis 28 between the first and second ends. The intermediate area has an exhaust (catalytic) filter element 24 disposed therein to cover the cross-sectional area A1. However, a hollow portion 40 having a small cross-sectional area A2 is present inside, so the actual cross-sectional area A3 of the exhaust filter element is A1-A2. A transfer tube 26 communicates with the second port through the hollow portion. Exhaust flows through the exhaust filter element 24 between first and second side portions 44 and 46 in an axial direction 42 and flows through the transfer tube and the hollow portion in the opposite axial direction 48.
