Abstract:
A preheating apparatus for particulate material comprises a containment vessel, a floor ending in a central material discharge section, and a vertically oriented outer annular preheating section which circles the center section, with said annular preheating section having an outer wall and an inner wall having a lower side that is spaced above the floor to form an arch. A ram-type plunger feeder moves reciprocally from a first retracted position located closer to the outer wall to a second extended position located between the first retracted position and the material outlet of the chamber for contacting particulate material with said pusher face and moving particulate material under the arch and toward the material outlet. It has been discovered that in preheaters of this design the relative locations of the first retracted position of the feeder, the arch and the end of the sloped floor adjacent to the central discharge will have an influence on the movement of the particulate material toward the central discharge.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for calcining a natural chalk powder within a rotary kiln. The powder is inserted into the kiln accompanied by an additive that promotes nodulization of the powder to thereby facilitate the treatment of the chalk powder within the rotary kiln. The nodulization takes place at temperatures less than the calcining temperatures of the chalk and prior to the nodulized chalk being calcined within the kiln.
Abstract:
A vertically situated incinerator for receiving heated kiln off gases from a petroleum coke calcining process and incinerating volatile matter and carbon fines entrained in the gases. The incinerator also functions as a hot stack through which the gases are vented to atmosphere at times when any downstream equipment for receiving the gases are off line.

Abstract:
The current invention provides for a limestone preheater which segregates material according to particle size and further provides for material bed depth adjustment, preferably during operation. Pursuant to the present invention, changes in particle size graduations (for example to allow for better quarry utilization) can easily be accommodated while maintaining optimal preheater performance.
