Abstract:
An apparatus and method for removal of cadmium can include a first reactor that is configured to calcine material containing phosphate and subsequently feed that calcined material to a cadmium removal vessel that is operated to remove cadmium from the calcined material. The cadmium removal vessel may be operated so that conditions in the vessel provide a reducing environment for removal of cadmium from the calcined material. The removed cadmium can be subsequently processed via heat exchange and filtration that is configured to remove a substantial amount, if not all, of the cadmium from a flow of material containing the removed cadmium prior to gas of this flow of material being output to the atmosphere. In some embodiments, a seeding agent may be added to the material flow containing the cadmium prior to, during, or after heat exchange to help facilitate filtration of the cadmium out of the flow.
