Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To measure an accurate axis of positions of a row of serial contact pins by a simple proper method. SOLUTION: After a head 1 which can move along the Y coordinate direction between a pick-up area 3 supplying an electronic part with an arrangement of contact pins 6 and a printed circuit board 20 picks up the electronic part from the pick-up area 3, while the head moves between the pick-up area 3 and the printed circuit board 20, positions of the contact pins along the Y coordinate are detected to determine an actual position of each pin along the Y coordinate as a first data arrangement, and positions of the contact pins along the X coordinate are detected to determine an actual position of each pin along the X coordinate as a second data arrangement, and the average central position of each pin is then calculated, and it is compared with its ordinary allowable central position by the two data arrangement, and the position of the head 1 holding the part 2 with the contact pins 6 is then corrected before the contact pins 6 are inserted into the corresponding holes 5 of the board 20.

Abstract: The method and apparatus comprise a pick-up and insertion head (1) movable along predetermined direction (Y-axis) between a pick-up area (3) provided for electronic components bearing an array of contact pins (6) and a printed circuit board (20), whereby during the movement of the pick-up and insertion head (1), having picked up a component provided with contact pins (6) from the pick-up arcs (3), between the pick-up area (3) and the printed circuit board (20), the position of the contact pins along the Y-axis are detected by means of a first laser beam (7) determining the actual position of each pin along said Y-axis as a first array of data, almost at the same time the position of the contact pins along the X-axis are detected by means of a second laser beam (13) determining the actual position of each pin along the X-axis as a second array of data, by means of said two arrays of data, the mean centre position of each pin can subsequently be computed and compared with the normal allowable centre position thereof, subsequently, a correction can be applied on the position of the head (1) bearing the component (2) provided with the contact pins (6) before said contact pins (6) are inserted in corresponding holes (5) in the printed circuit board (20).

Abstract: For the removal of a connector from a printed circuit board (12, 28) wherein the connector consist of a connector housing (14) including contact pins (16) being of the right angle type (bent at an angle of about 90.degree.), whereby a portion of the contact pins include a compliant attachment (press-fit) area by means of which the connector is attached to the board, and wherein use is generally made of a press with a push ram (10) and a table (11) provided with an anvil, whereby the anvil (20) comprises a base portion (22) and an upper hook-shaped portion which is formed as a comb (24) wherein the openings or slots (26) arc in register with the position of the contact pins (16) along the longitudinal direction of the connector (14) and which is introduced into an open side of the connector housing up to the level of the contact pins in order to provide appropriate support to the printed circuit beard while the compliant attachment area's of the contact pins are being pushed out of the holes of the board.

Abstract: The method consists in aligning a printed-circuit board 2 with respect to an insertion die 4 containing grooves 8, and an anvil 3 containing grooves 6 of a manually operated press, in order for at least one electronic component 1, which is provided with projecting contact pins 7 with elastic attachment zones, to be inserted into a selected insertion zone in the PCB 2, the insertion die 4 and the anvil 3 always being aligned with respect to one another along an insertion centre line c, and the printed-circuit board being attached to a manually displaceable X-Y table, the position of the centre point p of the selected insertion zone being respectively defined by means of a Y-coordinate and an X-coordinate with respect to the insertion centre line c, the table being moveable within a first tracking zone, the area of which extends over a great distance with respect to the insertion centre line c, and within a second tracking zone, the area of which extends over a limited distance with respect to the insertion centre line c.
