    Abstract: Disclosed herein is a low smoke, fire-resistant and moisture resistant cable coating, said coating comprising: a) a base polymer containing a polyolefin or a synthetic rubber; b) at least 5% by weight of total polymer of an oxygen containing ethylene copolymer; c) a fire retardant selected from the group consisting of zinc borate, zinc stannate, basic zinc molybdate, zinc calcium molybdate, zinc oxide, hydrated structured silicates, synthetic anionic hydrotalcite; and d) at least 60 percent by weight of a synergistic blend of magnesium hydroxide and aluminium monohydrate. Also disclosed are methods for preparation of said cables.

    Abstract: Cable coatings having effective low-smoke emission, fire resistance and moisture resistance provided by a single layer are described. The cable coatings contain an base polymer, a oxygen containing ethylene copolymer, a fire retardant and a synergistic blend of magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide. Cables coated with the described coatings have improved wet electrical performance, and satisfactory fire performance and smoke characteristics.
