Abstract: The housing is for a self-erecting type fin (14) in a missile body. Space is provided for the retracted fin and there is also an opening (26) through which the fin can emerge. Over this opening is a cover which can be freed. A movable lock is provided to hold the cover over the opening. The space and lock extend along the axis of the missile body. The lock has a number of pivots that support a cover plate with lugs fitting the pivots.

Abstract: The strut system is extensible and is used for a self positioning fin. There are two stays (32, 40), one on the leading edge and one on the trailing edge. Both have a lower telescopic tube which pivots on its lower end on a fixed pivot (28, 30). There is also an upper telescopic tube, moving in the lower one, which is pivoted on a common pivot (36). Inside both types of struts are compression springs (38, 44). The struts are aligned by a spindle (34, 42) and slot on one of them. The spring is fully compressed when the struts are folded.

Abstract: A self-erecting collapsible wing for an airframe includes a telescoping strut assembly, Figure 4, including a leading strut 32, 34 and a trailing strut 40, 42 each pivoted at an inner end to fixed pins 28, 30 on a base support structure of a wing housing within a slot in the airframe for retraction to a colinear position within the housing and spring biased to an outward fully deployed position. A releasable cover 26, Figure 7, conforming to the curvature of the airframe is normally latched in position over the slot when the wing is in the collapsed position within the wing housing and is jettisoned to permit automatic self-erection of the wing.
