Methods for making hollow silica particle are disclosed, said particles made from a composition comprising a silicon-containing compound selected from the group consisting of tetraalkoxysilanes, trialkyloxysilanes and derivatives thereof, dialkoxysilanes and derivatives thereof, alkoxysilanes and derivatives thereof, silicone oligomers, oligomeric silsesquioxanes and silicone polymers distributed over a polymer template core that is eliminated from the particle. The particles of the present invention have a substantially uniform particle size and exhibit low permeability to liquids.
Abstract:
Nanoparticles (10) functionalized with at least one zwitterionic moiety, and compositions comprising said nanoparticles are provided. The nanoparticles (10) have characteristics that result in minimal retention of the particles in the body compared to other nanoparticles. The nanoparticle (10) comprises a core (20), having a core surface (30) essentially free of silica, and a shell (40) attached to the core surface (30). The shell (40) comprises at least one silane- functionalized zwitterionic moiety. Further, methods of making said nanoparticles and methods of their use as diagnostic agents are provided.

Compositions of nanoparticles functionalized with at least one net positively charged group and at least one net negatively charged group, methods for making a plurality of nanoparticles, and methods of their use as diagnostic agents are provided. The nanoparticles have characteristics that result in minimal retention of the particles in the body compared to other nanoparticles. The nanoparticle comprises a coreand a shell. The shell comprises a plurality of silane moieties; at least one silane moiety of the plurality is functionalized with a net positively charged group and at least one silane moiety of the plurality is functionalized with a net negatively charged group.

This invention relates to a topical composition for treating amino acid based substrates comprising a protected thiol compound having the formula R—(S—Pr)m where R is a functional group, S is sulfur, and Pr is a heterocyclic protecting group, and m is an integer between 1 and 100. The invention further relates to systems which comprise this protected thiol compound and an activating mechanism. The protected thiol compounds of the present invention may be used in hair care compositions, textile care compositions, cosmetic compositions, oral care compositions, skin care, nail care, laundry care, acne care and animal care compositions. A preferred embodiment of the present invention provides a silicone composition and method for making. The composition comprises a polysiloxane or silicone resin, at least one linker, and at least one molecular hook.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a novel compound bearing a tri-substituted silyl-aliphatic group that bonds to platinum with a carbon-platinum bond, which is useful for curing an irradiation-curable silicone composition to which the addition reaction between a silicon-bonding hydride and an aliphatic unsaturated group- containing substance participates. SOLUTION: This novel compound is an optically active cyclo-pentadienyl platinum (IV) compound bearing a tri-substituted silylaliphatic group that is boned to platinum via a carbon-platinum bond, typically [1-methyl-3-(9'- phenanthrylmethyl)cyclopentadienyl] dimethyltrimethylsilylmethylplatinum. This exemplified compound is prepared by allowing a compound of formula I: Pt (CH3)2CH2Si(CH3)3 to react with lithium 1-methyl-3-(9'-phenanthril)- cyclopentadienide.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a compound having high copper content and reduce heavy metal concentration in waste water and treat the subject by-product by hydrolyzing the by-product under specific conditions in an aqueous medium containing methylchlorosilanes which are production products and a surfactant. SOLUTION: A by-product is hydrolyzed at least at pH about 7 and a temperature higher than about 0 deg.C in an aqueous medium containing a product and as necessarily a surfactant such as an alkylpolyether alcohol, a polyethylenealkyloxy alcohol or polyoxyethylene (4) lauryl ether in a method for producing at least two separable phases by treating a by-product produced during production of methylchlorosilanes. Thereby, two separable phases composed of a first phase containing an inert solid having high copper content and a second phase not containing a heavy metal and comprising an aqueous solution suitable for disposing into industrial waste fluid by further carrying out treatment or without carrying out further treatment are produced to treat the by-product.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silicone resin composition usable for the treatment of damaged hair to exhibit a conditioning effect and a durable effect and provide a method for producing the composition. SOLUTION: The silicone composition is composed of one or more kinds of polysiloxane or silicone resin, one or more molecular hooks selected from heterocyclic pyridinium compound, heterocyclic triazinium compound, heterocyclic pyrimidium compound and heterocyclic pyrazine compound and one or more linkers having polyether bond and polyamino bond. The composition is effectively usable as a hair treating preparation, cosmetic or mouth wash, a preparation for animals for the above purpose and a preparation for the treatment of woven fabric.
