Abstract: An ultrasonic sensor assembly for testing a pipe includes a first and second transducer rings attached to the pipe and spaced apart along a length of the pipe. The first transducer ring includes a plurality of transmitters for transmitting a wave, such as a non-dispersive guided wave. The first transducer ring transmits the wave along the pipe. The second transducer ring includes a plurality of receivers for receiving the wave. A relative position of the first transducer ring with respect to a circumferential position of the second transducer ring is determined based on characteristics of the wave received by the second transducer ring. A method of positioning the ultrasonic sensor assembly on the pipe is also provided.

Abstract: An ultrasonic sensor assembly 10 for a test pipe 12 comprising a sensor array 30 which includes a plurality of sensor elements (34, Fig. 2) supported on a flexible backing material (32, Fig. 2), for detecting a characteristic of the test pipe. The sensor array 30 is adjustable in length to substantially match a perimeter distance around an outer surface 18 of the test pipe. The sensor elements may be arranged linearly and spaced equidistant from each other on the sensor array. An excess portion of the sensor array 30 may be removed to form an adjusted length. The sensor array 30 may be attached to the outer surface of the pipe with a fastener. Each of the sensor elements may include a wire 22 so that information is exchanged between the sensor elements and a test apparatus 20. The test pipe 12 may be a non-cylindrical shape and the characteristic tested may be pipe thickness or corrosion.

Abstract: An apparatus (100) for attaching a device (30) to a circular structure (10) is disclosed. In one embodiment, the apparatus (100) includes a clamp body (110) attached to the outer surface of the circular structure (10) using a strap (20), which can be attached to the clamp body (110) using a spring (140) that maintains an attachment force to prevent movement of the clamp body (110 over a wide range of temperatures and temperature cycling of the circular structure (10) and the strap (20). In one embodiment, the device (30) can be installed in the clamp body (110 and coupled to the outer surface of the circular structure (10) using one or more spring washers (152) that maintain an attachment force between the device (30) and the outer surface of the circular structure (10) to prevent detachment of the device (30) from the outer surface of the circular structure (10) over a wide range of temperatures and temperature cycling of the circular structure (10).
