Abstract: A polycarbonate substrate is provided with an adherent, hard, abrasion and organic solvent resistant thin glass top coat by initially priming the substrate with a primer coating comprised of the photoreaction products of certain polyfunctional acrylic monomers and thereafter vapor depositing under vacuum onto the primed surface a thin glass top layer, the glass being evaporated by means of radio frequency induction heating. The polyfunctional acrylic ester monomers of the present invention are represented by the general formula (FORMULA) wherein (n) is an integer from (2) to (8), preferably from (2) to (6), and more preferably from (2) to (4); and (R) is an (n) valent hydrocarbon radical, an (n) valent substituted hydrocarbon radical, an (n) valent hydrocarbon radical containing at least one ether linkage, and an (n) valent substituted hydrocarbon radical containing at least one ether linkage.

Les monomeres d'esters acryliques polyfonctionnels de la presente invention sont representes par la formule generale: (FORMULE) dans laquelle (n) represente un nombre entier de 2 a 8 de preference de 2 a 6 et, plus precisement, de 2 a 4; R represente un radical hydrocarbure n-valent substitue, un radical hydrocarbure n-valent renfermant au moins une liaison ether et un radical hydrocarbure n-valent substitue renfermant au moins une liaison ether.
