Abstract:
Process for the production of a nonwoven fleece from continuous filaments of a spun and stretched polymer yarn, especially a yarn composed of continuous hollow tubular polyethylene terephthalate filaments, wherein the yarn having permanently crimped filaments with an individual denier of about 0.5 to 20 denier is subjected to a temporary elongation within the range or region of the stress-strain curve which produces an elastic strain but under a load of at least 0.1 grams/denier, the permanent extension or set of the filaments being less than 4 percent, and then releasing the tension on the yarn whereby the crimped structure of the filaments is reformed and the yarn spreads out laterally. The resulting product is useful as a filler material in pillows, quilts, jackets and the like.

Abstract:
A vertical drainage system for a basement or other below grade foundation wall having a sealer coat on its outer surface, a filamentary web or sheet composed of a fiber-forming synthetic thermoplastic polymer, preferably in the form of rows of looped amorphous melt-spun and bonded filaments, being laid along the wall between its outer sealer coat and the adjacent earth, and pipe means or the like near the bottom or footing of the wall to drain off water percolating downwardly through the filamentary filter layer.

1,274,364. Fancy yarn; twisted strips. GLANZSTOFF A.G. 4 May, 1970 [26 June, 1969], No. 21341/70. Headings D1F and D1W. A process for producing a fancy yarn having a homogeneous distribution of the fibre length between staple length and continuous portions comprises producing a fleece by depositing continuous filaments in a statistically random fashion on an endless belt moving at constant speed, at least temporarily strengthening the fleece e.g. by the addition of a binder, and cutting the fleece into continuous strips, the strips being twisted to produce a fancy yarn. In a preferred embodiment, threads 1 are drawn from a creel and opened into the individual filaments 3 by air jets 2 prior to being deposited on an endless belt 4. A watersoluble binder is sprayed on to the fleece at 6 and the strengthened fleece 5' is cut into strips 8 by knives 7. The strips 8 may be pulled between pairs of rolls 9 and 10 prior to being twisted on a ring twisting machine. The threads 1 may be of different colours and at least two strips of different colours may be twisted together to form the yarn. In a further embodiment, the strengthened fleece is wound on a support and the resultant package is cut into discs which are twisted to form the yarn. When the fleece is temporarily strengthened by means of a water-soluble binder, the binder may be washed out of the yarn.
