Abstract:
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula (wherein R is a hydrogen atom, an inert cation or a C1-6 alkyl group), and the preparation of: (1) the free acid by reacting a hypobromite or hypochlorite with tetraiodophthalamic acid or a salt thereof, which may be made from ammonia and tetraiodophthalic anhydride; and (2) the esters above by esterifying tetraiodoanthranilic or a metal salt thereof. An "inert cation" is a cation that does not appreciably affect the pharmaceutical characteristics of the compound to which it is attached. According to the Provisional Specification, R, when an alkyl group, may be substituted by bromine or chlorine atoms, hydroxyl, alkoxy or nitro groups.ALSO:Broncographic compositions comprise a compound of the general formula (wherein R is a hydrogen atom, an inert cation or a C1-6 alkyl group) in an aqueous or oily liquid medium. They may be administered in any convenient way. An "inert cation" is a cation that does not appreciably affect the pharmaceutical characteristics of the compound to which it is attached. According to the Provisional Specification, R, when an alkyl group, may be substituted by bromine or chlorine atoms, hydroxyl, alkoxy or nitro groups.
