Abstract: A computing device is described that can receive contextual information related to a user associated with the computing device. The contextual information may relate to at least one of a physiological condition of the user at a current time or a type of activity associated with the user at the current time. The computing device can select, based at least in part on the contextual information, a type of alert to output as an indication of notification data. The type of alert may include at least one of an electric stimulus type alert, a shape-memory alloy type alert, and a vibration type alert. Responsive to selecting the type of alert, the computing device can output an alert based on the notification data, the alert being of the selected type of alert.

Abstract: A computing device receives contextual information related to a user associated with the computing device so as to choose a type of somatosensory alert to give for notification.. The computing device selects based at least in part on the contextual information, a type of alert to output as an indication of notification data. The type of alert includes at least one of an electric stimulus type alert, a shape-memory alloy type alert, and a vibration type alert. Responsive to selecting the type of alert, the computing device can output an alert based on the notification data, the alert being of the selected type of alert.

Abstract: A computing system is described that, while a user is interacting with a first computing device 100 at a first particular time, receives, by the first computing device, notification data associated with the user; and outputs, by the first computing device, for display, a graphical indication of the notification data; determines, by the first computing device, that the user is not interacting with the first computing device at a second particular time; and responsive to determining that the second particular time is less than a threshold amount of time after the first particular time, such that the notification may have been missed by the user, outputs, by the first computing device and for transmission to a second computing/display device, the notification data. The arrangement determines that a first notification may have been missed and outputs the notification at an alternative device, that the first computing device determines, such as to chase the user to ensure that the notification is seen/heard or otherwise alerted. The notification may be communicated to the second computing device if it is a time sensitive notification or e.g. of a particular priority level or e.g. from a contact on a contact list. The output devices may be presence-sensitive display devices with which the first computing device can determine interaction/presence.

Abstract: A computing system is described that receives notification data associated with a recipient user 200, and responsive to determining that the recipient user is interacting with a first computing device at a first particular time 210, outputs, for transmission to the first computing device, the notification data 220. The computing system determines that the user is interacting with a second computing device at a second particular time 230, and responsive to determining, based on the second particular time being less than a threshold amount of time after the first particular time 240, that the user did not view the notification data at the first computing device, outputs, for transmission to the second computing device, the notification data 250. This arrangement avoids notifications, particularly urgent notifications, being missed by a user that has recently changed devices where a notification was recently sent to the device the user was previously using. The context, i.e. presence, of the user may be monitored using sensors, communication units/radios or input devices etc. The method aims to chase the user as he/she switches devices to ensure notifications are successfully seen (or heard/felt etc.) by the recipient user.
