Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described for adaptive selection of a network access mode by a user equipment. In aspects, a user equipment (UE) indicates (705), to a RAN, support for at least a first network access mode and a second network access mode and receives directions (710) to operate in the first network access mode. While communicating in the RAN using the first network access mode (715), the UE detects (720) a trigger event and determines to use the second network access mode based on at least one operational performance metric. In aspects, the UE indicates (740), to the RAN, that the UE supports the second network access mode without indicating that the UE supports the first network access mode, and transitions (750) from the first network access mode to the second network access mode. The UE then communicates in the RAN (780) using the second network access mode.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes methods and apparatuses for interleaving radio access technologies. In some aspects, the systems include a user device with a first wireless connection of a first RAT and a second wireless connection of a second RAT. The user device receives a coordinated uplink schedule for transmitting via the first wireless connection and the second wireless connection. The user device transmits a first portion of data during a data frame via the first wireless connection. According to the coordinated uplink schedule, the transmission of the first portion of data is interrupted, by the user device, to transmit a signal via the second wireless connection of the second RAT. The user device may then resume transmitting the data frame by transmitting a second portion of the data frame via the first wireless connection.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) that supports a plurality of radio access technologies (RATs) can implement a method for communicating with a radio access network (RAN). The method includes detecting (402C), by processing hardware, that an application executing on an operating system (OS) invoked an application programming interface (API) that passes information to lower one or more layers of a protocol stack, for facilitating RAT selection. The method also includes receiving (404C), via the API at the lower one or more layers, a parameter related to data the application expects to communicate within a certain period of time with the RAN, including receiving the parameter before the lower one or more layers receives the data from the application or the RAN. The method further includes causing (406C) at least one RAT to be selected from the plurality of RATs based at least in part on the parameter, for communicating the data.

Abstract: In some aspects, a network entity establishes (1305) a wireless connection between a base station and a user equipment based, at least in part, on a first time-division-duplex slot format, where a time-division-duplex slot format assigns communication resources of a wireless connection using a first arrangement of a combination of uplink communication assignments, downlink communication assignments and/or gap transmission assignments. Afterwards, the network identifies (1310) one or more metrics associated with the wireless connection and determines (1315) a second time-division-duplex slot format based on the one or more metrics using a second arrangement of the uplink communication assignments, the downlink communication assignments, and/or the gap transmission assignments. The network entity then reconfigures (1320) the wireless connection between the base station and the user equipment by directing the user equipment to exchange communications over the wireless connection based on the second time-division-duplex slot format.

Abstract: The present disclosure describes methods and apparatuses for beamforming enhancement via strategic resource utilization. In some aspects, an air interface resource is used for exchanging wireless communications using one or more signal beams. In some implementations, end‑user devices are classified into a beamforming state, such as active, idle, or inactive, based on an activity level with a base station. To facilitate antenna beamforming between the base station and an end‑user device, opportunities for beamforming training are provided by strategically granting resource units based on one or more resource allocation rules. For example, both control and data information can be allocated together on the same frequencies for each end‑user device. Also, an uplink or a downlink grant can be provided that precedes a downlink or an uplink allocation, respectively. In some implementations, the resource allocation rules are applied based on the beamforming state to which an end-user device has been classified.

Abstract: A User Equipment (210) (UE) determines (215) a maximum UL/DL duty cycle to utilize for a connection with a base station (202) based on a content of a UE capabilities request (212) sent by the base station, where the maximum UL/DL duty cycle is typically is less than a most restrictive, possible UL/DL duty cycle of the UE, yet allows the UE to remain SAR compliant. The UE may determine (215) the maximum UL/DL duty cycle further based on, e.g., requested frequency bands, operational UE transceivers, carrier components, UE power class, stored power data, etc. The UE communicates (218) the maximum UL/DL duty cycle for the connection to the base station, thereby resulting in more efficient downlink data delivery during the connection as well as increasing cell site coverage and overall system efficiency. The UE may store a global parameter whose value is indicative of the maximum UL/DL duty cycle.

In aspects, a forward signal for transmission by the antenna elements (308) is generated, at least one VSWR detector (210; 310) coupled to the antenna array (204; 304; 404) measures a power of the forward signal, the forward signal is transmitted, the at least one VSWR detector (210; 310) measures a power of a reflected signal, and the VSWR detector (210; 310) calculates a VSWR. Detected changes in the calculated VSWR are then utilized to detect object (301) proximity in the near-field region. Beamforming weights may be applied to the forward signal and a machine-learned model can be utilized to detect object (301) proximity in the near-field region.

Abstract: Techniques and apparatuses are described for enabling a base station (121) to enable peer-to-peer communication among multiple user equipment (UE) (112, 113) over a mmWave link (183). The techniques described herein overcome challenges that the multiple UEs (112, 113) might otherwise face in trying to establish peer-to-peer links on their own. By relying on the base station (121) to grant air interface resources for the UE (112) to perform peer-to-peer communications with the UE (113), the UE (112) can communicate directly with the other UE (113), independent of links that the UE (112) or the other UE (113) maintains with the base station (121). Furthermore, reliance on the base station (121) may help the UE (112) and the other UE (113) mitigate interference from other nearby mmWave links that are separate from the peer-to-peer wave link (183). In addition, by relying on the base station (121) to specify the beam sweeping pattern, beam acquisition by the UE (112) and the other UE (113) may be improved.
