[Also in Division D1] A strand of polygonal cross-section having filaments constituting an inner lay and an outer lay, is characterized in that the outer lay filaments are arranged in groups of three associated with each inner lay filament, two of the outer lay filaments in each group being thinner than the third, the strand having no filament extending coaxial with the strand axis. In Fig. 2 there are three inner filaments 9, 10, 11 and nine outer filaments. Inner filament 9 is associated with three outer filaments 9a, 9b, 9c and filaments 9a, 9b are thinner than filament 9c. Fig. 1 illustrates an embodiment in which two inner filaments 1, 2 are associated with six outer filaments. Inner filament 1 is associated with the three outer filaments 3, 4, 5 and filaments 3, 4 are thinner than filament 5. Fig. 3 (not shown) illustrates an embodiment in which there are four inner filaments and twelve outer filaments. The Specification also describes cables made from the strands. The strands or cables may form an endless ring and may be embedded in a vehicle tyre. The filaments may be of metal, glass, plastics or any combination of these materials.

    Abstract: The locking pin to hold wire strands together to form a flat cable for mining applications, has a shaft tapering along its length from one end to the other. The tapering of the shaft is confined to one plane, while the shaft width is constant. The shaft shape can be conical or stepped, with a conical tapering where there are the separate steps. The design gives a simple bolt which can be inserted easily to repair strands while the flat cable is suspended, or to correct unequal strand tension.

    Abstract: The conveyor belt has a reinforcing layer and includes a woven ply (3) in which are embedded edge ropes (4). The weft threads of the ply (3) projecting across the edge ropes and binding the end ropes to the ply have a smaller diameter than the edge ropes. The distance of the first warp thread from the edge rope is at least equal to the diameter of the edge rope. The weft threads consists of metal cords and their ends form loops for embracing the edge ropes. The warp threads which are parallel to edge ropes consist of metallic wires or textile threads of a high strength material. The ply is woven from a textile thread of a high tensile strength.
