Abstract:
A machine for the assembly of frames, e.g. of timber, comprises a first static assembly (6), and a second assembly (8) mounted for longitudinal movement relative to the first assembly (6). The static assembly (6) comprises two adjustable side assemblies (16), and supporting assemblies, comprising support members (20, 22) providing parallel spaced supporting surfaces (23) on which elongate frame members (26) may be positioned. The moving assembly (8) carries clamping devices (60) each of which provides a datum surface, and an air cylinder to move the datum surface between operative and retracted positions, and a power operated clamp member to urge a transverse component (120) of the frame into engagement with the two datum surfaces. In the use of the machine, with the moving assembly (8) at a start position, parallel elongate frame members (26) are placed on the supporting surfaces (23), and a transverse frame member (120) is placed between the members (26), and the clamping devices (60) are operated to clamp the member (120) at a desired position, said clamping devices (60) operating from beneath the plane containing the longitudinal members (26) and the transverse member (120). Supplementary clamping members (112) are then operated to hold the longitudinal frame members (26) and the transverse frame member (120) in position, while fasteners (which may be in the form of nails) are applied by nailing guns (100). The clamping devices (60) are then withdrawn and the moving assembly (8) is moved lengthwise of the static assembly (6) and the abutment members (66) are moved to their operative positions to provide datum surfaces defining the position against which the second transverse member (120) of the frame is to be secured. The assembly (8) is thus moved stepwise lengthwise of the side members (26), stopping at intervals while transverse frame members (120) are nailed between the longitudinal members (26).
Abstract:
A stud feed assembly for welding studs comprising a stud loader and a stud catcher. The stud loader comprises a first chute component and a second chute component, the first chute component having a greater diameter than the second chute component. The stud catcher comprises a receiving component and a vertical component, the receiving component being shaped to receive it stud such that the receiving component aligns the received stud in a substantially vertical position.
Abstract:
An illustrative embodiment of the present invention is concerned with a permanent magnet rotor for an electric machine provided with an internal stator and a coaxial external rotor. To overcome the drawbacks associated with the use of an adhesive to mount the permanent magnets to the rotor body, permanent magnet spacing and retaining elements are mounted to the inner surface of the rotor, between adjacent magnets.
Abstract:
A container for packing and shipping stud welding ferrule aligned along a spindle. The container comprises a body having a top, a bottom, opposing side walls and opposing end walls defining a storage space therein. The container further comprises a spindle retainer operatively connected to the body. The spindle retainer has a transverse portion and a longitudinal portion connected to the transverse portion. The transverse portion extends from one of the end walls and toward and into the storage space, while the longitudinal portion extends from the transverse portion and toward the bottom of the body. The transverse portion and the longitudinal portion are sized and shaped to accept and to retain ends of the spindle to contain the spindle within the body.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a method of manufacturing a timber frame structural panel assembly, and to a timber frame structural panel assembly. The invention firstly provides a method of making a panel assembly comprising a framework of timber beams, at least one sheet of sheathing material and a breather membrane, all of which are secured together in a single fixing operation. The invention secondly provides a panel assembly comprising two panel structures, each panel structure comprising a pair of sheathing panels with a layer of insulating material therebetween, the panel structures being joined by a beam of timber which engages the sheathing panels of both panel structures and is secured thereto by a single line of wide crown staples.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a ferrule dispenser for dispensing stud welding ferrules and to a package of ferrules for use with the dispenser. The dispenser comprises a rod that supports a spring loaded cam system. The cam system moves relative to the rod and includes a compression spring and a cam. The spring and cam work together to bias a pair of ferrule release pins inward and outward of the rod, selectively holding ferrules on an outer surface of the rod or releasing them onto a work surface. The package of ferrules used with the dispenser includes multiple sets of ferrules, each set including multiple ferrules uniformly stacked on a spindle. Each spindle has one open end that can pass through an opening in a handle of the dispenser and down a center bore of the dispenser for loading the ferrules from the spindle onto the dispenser.
Abstract:
Knife shaft pair for cutting web-like material, in particular undulated board, wherein the knives contact each other temporarily under bias, if necessary, shortly before termination of the cutting operation, the cutting edge lying at the trailing side of a first knife being formed in a manner known per se so as to be uniformly continuous with an equal spacing from the shaft axis, the other knife having a saw-toothed cutting edge whose teeth extend, commencing from the continuous line of contact with the first knife, away from the shaft of the second knife and in the approximation region of the knives at an acute angle to the connecting plane between the line of contact and the uniform cutting edge such that they lie at the trailing or the leading side of the first side during the cutting operation.
Abstract:
A cart that uniformly transverses floor decking that has sequential peaks and valleys. The cart comprises a wheel assembly having an array of wheels forming rows and columns of wheels positioned under the cart wherein at any given instant of time a number of the wheels of the rows and columns contact peaks of the floor decking and while other wheels extend over and free from contacting the valleys such that the cart uniformly traverses the floor decking.

Abstract:
A method for making a semiconductor device includes forming a patterned dielectric overlying active circuitry, the patterned dielectric having a plurality of cavities. A diffusion barrier is formed over the patterned dielectric. A conductive layer is formed over the diffusion barrier in the plurality of cavities. The conductive layer is etched back to be below a top surface of the dielectric, forming recessed areas over the conductive layers in the plurality of cavities. The recessed areas are then filled with a capping film. The capping film and the diffusion barrier are removed to provide a relatively smooth planarized surface. Providing a relatively smooth planarized surface reduces leakage currents between conductors.
