Abstract:
Disclosed are systems and rotor/stator assemblies with improved electrical isolation. An example rotor/stator assembly may include a rotor, a rotor housing, a rotor insulator, a stator, a stator plate, and a stator insulator. The rotor may be electrically isolated from the rotor housing by the rotor insulator, and the stator may be electrically isolated from the stator plate by the stator insulator. The stator may be disposed coaxial to the rotor. The rotor/stator assembly may function as a motor, and the stator may be configured to cause the rotor to rotate about the stator in response to an input of electrical energy to the stator. Alternatively or additionally, the rotor/stator may function as an electrical generator. The rotor may be configured to rotate about the stator, and the stator may be configured to produce electrical energy in response to rotation of the rotor relative to the stator.
Abstract:
Apparatus are disclosed that are configured to distribute internal loads from a drive mechanism to a solid fixed shaft and rotatable tubular shaft coupled to a propeller, for example. An example apparatus involves: (a) a stator, (b) a central shaft arranged coaxially within the stator, wherein the central shaft has a proximal end and a distal end, and wherein the proximal end of the central shaft is fixedly mounted relative to the stator, (c) a tubular shaft arranged coaxially about the central shaft, wherein the tubular shaft is rotatably coupled to the central shaft, wherein the tubular shaft has a proximal end and a distal end, and (d) a rotor, wherein the rotor is coupled to the tubular shaft, and wherein the rotor is arranged coaxially with the stator.
Abstract:
A rotor for use with an airborne wind turbine, wherein the rotor comprises a front flange, a can, a rear flange, and a rigid insert comprising a propeller mount, wherein the front flange, can, and rear flange comprise one of carbon fiber and spun aluminum, wherein a rear end of the front flange is attached to a front end of the can, and the rear flange is mounted to a rear end of the can, wherein the rigid insert is bonded to the front flange; and wherein the rigid insert comprises a tube that axially extends within the rotor to allow for the positioning of a driveshaft therethrough.
