Abstract: Preparation of succinylcholine halides of formula I: by reacting dialkyl succinates with an excess dimethylaminoethanol in the presence of an alkali metal alcoholate or alkali metal amide catalyst and then reacting the resulting bis(2-dimethylaminoethyl) succinates with methyl halides.
