Abstract: A toggle latch having three linkage means, the first and third linkage means being pivotally connected to a frame and the second linkage means being pivotally connected between the first and third linkage means. The first linkage means having a pivot slidably restrained within a frame aperture for moving between a first position when the toggle latch assembly is secured and a second position where the toggle latch assembly is opened. In one embodiment, a forth linkage means is positioned between the frame and the slidable pivot of the first linkage means in order to decrease the frictional loading on the slidable pivot.

Abstract: A fastener for joining sheet material having mating apertures includes a grommet and stud. The grommet has a head with spaced side portions and an opening therethrough. A pair of spreadable essentially parallel stems extend axially from the side portions on opposite sides of the opening. The stud is initially attached at one end integrally to the grommet within the opening and arranged, when severed from the head, to move between the stem elements and to rotate thereby to spread the stem elements. The stud has a retainer channel and the grommet has a pair of laterally offset yieldable fingers for reception in the channel to prevent disengagement of the stud from the grommet after being severed therefrom by relative movement. The shank of the stud has a flat-faced rectangular stem spreader element having a minor transverse portion and a major transverse portion in ninety degree relation. The minor portion, when positioned with its flat faces confronting flat inner faces of the stems, permits insertion or withdrawal of the grommet. The major transverse portion is operable on turning the stud to force the stems into interlocking engagement with the mating apertures.

Abstract: A fastener for removably joining two members, the fastener comprising an expansible grommet and an expander plunger initially joined as a single piece by a frangible connection which is broken in the course of installation of the fastener to permit relative movement of the grommet and plunger in order to join the two members, the grommet and plunger remaining connected in such a manner that as the plunger is moved between an extended and retracted position, the grommet expands and contracts for releasably connecting the two members while the plunger and grommet remain interconnected, and, if desired, the grommet may remain attached to one of the two members intended to be joined by the fastener.

Abstract: An energy absorbing device which includes a deformable or elastomeric energy absorbing member, an indenting element, and means for effecting relative movement causing the indenting element to be pressed into the energy absorbing member; the energy absorbing member being restrained against translation movement but otherwise not bonded so that, on relative movement of the energy absorbing member indenting elements, the indenting element not only causes localized deformation of the energy absorbing member, but also subjecting the energy absorbing member to tension loads and compressing loads throughout substantial areas at opposite sides of the region of localized deformation so that energy absorbtion is distributed over a substantial region.
