Abstract:
A method for reducing the COD of water containing an emulsion of organic material in water. The emulsion contains insoluble organic material and a surfactant. The COD is reduced by mixing a cationic polymer flocculent with the water and maintaining the temperature at from 37 DEG C to 95 DEG C for a sufficient length of time for an organic phase and water with reduced COD to form.

Abstract:
A reaction rinse containing strong alkali, betaine surfactants, and a complexing agent for iron enhances the gloss of a dried and cured autodeposited coating that is contacted with the reaction rinse while still wet, particularly if the autodeposited coating consists predominantly of a copolymer of vinylidiene chloride.

Abstract:
Polyesters are described which are substantially the condensation products of at least one dicarboxylic acid, at least one volatile diol and at least one hydroxyl-functional component with functionality greater than 2 which controls ultimate viscosity. The products are suitable vehicles for the formulated thixotropic gels for centrifugal separation of fluids such as serum into high and low density components of, for example, separation of mixtures of cells on the basis of density.
Abstract:
A surfactant composition having enhanced gloss retention properties containing from about 0.001 to about 3.0 % by weight, based on the weight of the composition, of a gloss retention aid consisting of xanthan gum, as shown in the figure for various surfactant compositions comprising blends of alkyl polyglycoside and linear alcohol ethoxylate.
Abstract:
The preparation of concentrated solutions of oxime metal extractants, such as aldoximes and ketoximes, or mixtures of aldoxime and ketoxime and the use thereof in formulating or preparing extraction reagent compositions for use in extracting metals from aqueous solutions containing metal values; and in particular, to extraction reagent compositions which are solutions of mixtures of water insoluble hydroxy aryl oximes, aldoximes and ketoximes, in varying ratios by weight of 1:99 aldoxime to ketoxime or conversely 1:99 ketoxime to aldoxime, in water immiscible hydrocarbon solvents. The extraction compositions may also optionally contain equilibrium modifiers or kinetic additives.
Abstract:
Strong alkaline cleaning solutions and concentrates therefor can be prepared without using any phosphorus or nitrogen containing surfactants by combining a weak carboxylate surfactant with at least one, or preferably both, of an aliphatic alcohol alkoxylate nonionic surfactant and an alkyl phenol alkoxylate nonionic surfactant. The predominant alkoxylates in the nonionic surfactants are ethoxylates, but at least the non-aromatic based surfactant preferably contains some propoxylate also.
