Abstract: Washed textiles, rinsed free from detergent components, are treated with a last rinsing soln. contg 0.05-1 (0.2-0.5) g./l. water-soluble salt, (I), of a prim. 12-20C alkylamine ethoxylated with 2-5 mol. ethylene oxide. Pref. amine salts contain 12-14C and 2-3 ethylene glycol ether gps. or 16-18C and 4-5 ethylene glycol ether gps. The solns. may also contain 0.1-0.3 G./l. quat. ammonium salt, (II), as brightener and 0.3-2 g./l. stiffener (III). (I) have soil-release properties and do not affect other finishes, e.g. brighteners and starches. The soil-release treatment can take place in domestic washing machines.

Abstract: The agents contain anionic and/or non-ionic tensides, builders and the usual additives, together with 0.1-10(0.2-5) esp. 0.5-4%, w.r.t. the total wt. of the agent, of a water-soluble or -dispersible N-vinyloxazolidone homo- or copolymer. Pref. this homo- or copolymer has a mol.wt. of 10-10000, esp. 20-5000, and has a specific viscosity as a 1% aq. soln. at 20 degrees C of 0.01-5, esp. 0.1-1. The presence of the polymer inhibits the transfer of dye from coloured textiles onto white or light-coloured textiles when they are being washed together.

Abstract: This invention is directed to a method of preparing block copolymers useful as foam inhibitors, which method comprises the steps of: (1) mixing (a) from 100 parts by weight of a polydimethylsiloxane that is liquid at 20 DEG C., and (b) from about 2 to 20 parts by weight of a spatially cross-linked polysiloxane resin with a molecular weight of from about 1000 to 10,000; (2) heating said mixture in the presence of a catalyst until the viscosity is at least 200 mPa.s, as measured at 20 DEG C., to form a block polymer; (3) mixing said block polymer with (c) from about 0.5 to 15 parts by weight of a silicon dioxide aerogel; and (4) heating the mixture from step (3).

Abstract: New N-(2-hydroxyalkylamino)-omega-hydroxycarboxylic acid amides have formula R1-CHOH-CHR2-NH-(CH2)n-HN-CO-(CH2)m-OH (I) (where R1 and R2 are H or 1-20C alkyl; n is 2-10 and m is 2-5, provided that C atom sum in R1 + R2 is 6-20). (I) are prepd. by acylating 2-hydroxyalkyl-alkylene diamines of formula R1-CHOH-CHR2-NH-(CH2)n-NH2 (II) with 3-6C omega-hydroxycarboxylic acids or their derivs., e.g. lactones, anhydrides, halides, esters and amides. By-prods. are cpds. having formula R1-CHOH-CHR2-N CO-(CH2)m - OH -(CH2)n-NH2 (III) and disubstitution prods. having formula R1 -CHOH-CHR2-N CO-(CH2)m-OH -(CH2)n-NH-CO-(CH2)m -OH (IV), but (I) makes up >50 mol.% of reaction prod. (I) are used as greyness inhibitors in textile detergents.

Abstract: Detergent compositions contain anionic and/or non-ionic surfactants, framework substances and other usual additives, with addn. of 0.1-10 wt.% water-soluble or -dispersible N-vinyl imidazole homo- or co-polymer. The polymer additive is more effective than polyvinyl pyrrolidone in preventing transfer of colour to white or light-coloured textiles during washing with coloureds, and can be used in detergents contg. anionic surfactants. Pref. content of N-vinyl imidazole polymer is 0.2-5 (0.5-4)wt.%. Polymerisation grade is 10-10000(20-5000).

Abstract: Washing agent compositions and washing assistant compositions containing from 0.5% to 70% by weight of a phosphonopolycarboxylate having the formula COOMeCOOMe O ¦¦ PARALLEL CH---C--X--P-OMe ¦¦¦ R1R2OMe WHEREIN Me is H, alkali metal, or H.NR3, R1 is H or CH3, R2 is H, alkyl having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or -CH2-CHR-COOMe, R3 is H, alkyl or alkylol having 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and X is a direct bond or the groups COOMe COOMe OMe ¦ ¦ ¦ -C-CH2-, -C- or O=P-OMe, ¦ ¦ ¦ H R1 -C- ¦ R1 from 0 to 96.5% of other sequestering and non-sequestering, preferably phosphorus-free builders, and from 3% to 45% by weight of at least one surface-active compound of an anionic or non-ionic nature, whereby a 1% aqueous solution thereof has a pH of between 6 and 11.5. Preferably said phosphonopolycarboxylate sequestering agents are present as water-soluble salts capable of complex formation with alkaline earth metal ions. The invention also resides in the process of sequestering alkaline earth metal ions using aqueous solutions of the washing agent composition.

Abstract: This invention is directed to a method for preparing foam inhibitors for aqueous systems, which comprises the steps of: (a) mixing a higher-molecular branched-chain primary alcohol or from about 18 to 30 carbon atoms with hydrophobic colloidal silica in an alcohol to silica ratio of from about 100:2 to 100:20; (b) heating the mixture from step (a) under stirring to temperatures of from about 100 DEG to 240 DEG C.; and (c) allowing the heated mixture from step (b) to cool to room temperature. This invention is also directed to the suds regulators prepared and their use in aqueous detergent systems.

(I) may be incorporated in the washing agent during the spray-drying or granulating stages of process, or it may be admixed with a washing agent component which is then admixed with the remaining components.
