Abstract: A stand-off pad (1) for livestock such as cattle and including a floor (2) supported above a basement area (3). Optionally, a roof (9) may be supported above the floor (2). The floor (2) includes drainage to allow waste material generated by the livestock to pass into the basement area (3). The waste material is collected in the basement area (5) in which it decomposes and/or dehydrates. A bedding mix including wood chips, top soil, straw/hay or bark may be placed in the basement area (5). The construction of the stand-off pad allows standard farm machinery such as tractors easy access to occasionally clean out the decomposed/decomposing/dehydrated waste material. The collected waste material may be used as a fertiliser.
