A method (20) of processing an image comprises receiving a definition of at least one region (30) in the image, eg, by a user action, where the region definition has a location specification and a type specification. The method further comprises displaying the boundaries of the at least one defined region (36) according to its type specification, receiving a definition of a visible area (42) in the image, the visible area definition having a specification of margins around the image, generating an image layout definition comprising the region definition and the visible area definition, and saving the image layout definition. The image layout definition may also be used as a template to conform image documents to a specified layout. Different regions may be bounded by different colour boundaries. The image layout definition may be output as XML.

At least one unconstrained layout element of the layout template is varied, thereby generating a varied layout template. The varied layout template is printed and scanned. The method further includes determining a number of bits that can be encoded in the varied layout template, where the number of bits depends on the varying of the at least one unconstrained layout element.

A combinatorial summarizer includes a plurality of summarization engines, a processor in selective communication with each summarization engine, and computer readable instructions executable by the processor and embodied on a tangible, non-transitory computer readable medium. Each summarization engine is to select a respective plurality of sentences, and generate a relative rank and an associated weight for each sentence of the respective plurality of sentences. The computer readable instructions include instructions to determine a combined weight for each sentence of each respective plurality of sentences. The combined weight is based upon the respective associated weight and a respective relative human rank for each sentence in a set of sentences, including all sentences of each respective plurality of sentences. The computer readable instructions further include instructions to determine a total weight for each summarization engine based, respectively, upon the combined weights for each sentence of each respective plurality of sentences.
