Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymeric colorant containing a self-dispersion type dye/pigment as a more excellent colorant, while a pigment colorant has a restriction of chroma saturation, has such a restriction that pigment particles dispersed in a solution sometimes settle as time passes, and hence is subjected to various chemical and physical mechanisms to minimize these restrictions. SOLUTION: The polymeric colorant contains a pigment having a polymer covalently bonded thereto, a dye covalently bonded to the polymer, and a dispersant covalently bonded to at least one of the polymer and the dye; and the dye covalently bonded to the polymer contains a reactant which bonds with the dye and the polymer. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a colorant containing both components of a pigment and a dyestuff, and a corresponding ink composition. SOLUTION: The polymer colorant contains a pigment covalently combined with a polymer and a dyestuff covalently combined with the polymer. A dispersant can be covalently combined with at least one of the pigment, the polymer and the dyestuff. The polymer colorant realizes an improved chroma, water resistance and light fastness as it contains the both components of the pigment and the dyestuff. The color of the pigment component and dyestuff component can be made the same or different according to a desired external appearance. The polymer colorant is most suitable for a component of an inkjet composition but also for other various uses. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inkjet ink which can produce printed images having good glossiness and durability without increasing the viscosity of the ink. SOLUTION: The inkjet ink contains a polymer-bound pigment (10) whose particle diameter can be changed to exhibit a compact form and an extended form. The polymer-bound pigment (10) can contain a pigment to whose surface at least one polymer (2) can be bound. The at least one polymer (2) can be formed from a hydrophobic monomer (4) and a hydrophilic monomer (6). The hydrophilic monomer (6) is soluble in aqueous environments, and the hydrophobic monomer (4) is insoluble in the aqueous environments. The polymer-bound pigment (10) can be dispersed in an ink vehicle to give a low viscous inkjet ink. A method for producing printed images having excellent durability and gloss is also disclosed. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pigment based inkjet ink composition stable even at near neutral pH. SOLUTION: An inkjet ink comprising a liquid vehicle and a polymer dispersion-type pigment dispersed within the liquid vehicle is disclosed. In particular, the polymer dispersion-type pigment of the invention contains a pigment coated with a polymer having a hydrophilic section and a hydrophobic section. The polymer may be a polymerization product made by polymerizing a first monomer having a hydrophilic group and a second monomer having hydrophobic group. In addition, the polymer allows the polymer dispersion-type pigment to be stable within the liquid vehicle even at pH about 5.5-8.5. By using the polymer dispersion-type pigment of the invention, a wide choice of bleed control mechanisms is allowed and an inkjet ink capable of increasing the reliability of inkjet equipment can be made. Abstract:
Colorants having pigment and dye components having improved chroma and good water and lightfastness are disclosed and described. A polymeric colorant can include a pigment having a polymer covalently attached thereto and a dye covalently attached to the polymer. A dispersant can be covalently attached to at least one of the pigment, the polymer, and the dye. By including both a pigment and a dye component in the polymeric colorant, improved chroma, waterfastness, and lightfastness can be realized. The dye and pigment components can be substantially the same color, or can have different colors, depending on the desired appearance. The polymeric colorants of the present invention are well suited to inclusion in ink-jet compositions, although many other applications are considered suitable for the instant polymeric colorants.

Abstract:
An ink composition includes a colorant a co solvent and an acid chosen from oleic acid linoleic acid undecanoic acid dodecanoic acid tridecanoic acid and combinations thereof. The ink composition further includes lithium and water. An anti evaporative layer forms during uncapped non use at an interface between air and the ink composition in an orifice of a nozzle thereby reducing evaporation of the water from the ink composition.
