Abstract: Systems and methods for generating a unique identifier for an object in a distributed file system. In accordance with an example, the generating includes determining whether a location identifier for creation of the object in the distributed file system is being reused. Based on the determining, it is ascertained whether each reuse identifier from a set of reuse identifiers available for allocation for the location identifier is assigned once. Based on the ascertaining, a reuse identifier is assigned to the object based on the ascertaining. Further, the unique identifier is generated for the object based on at least the location identifier and the reuse identifier.
