Miniaturized planar column devices (2) are described for use in liquid phase analysis, the devices comprising microstructures fabricated by laser ablation in a variety of support substrates (4). Devices formed according to the invention include associated laser-ablated features required for function, such as analyte detection device (34, 36) and fluid communication device (10). Miniaturized columns constructed under the invention find use in any analysis system performed on either small and/or macromolecular solutes in the liquid phase and may employ chromatographic, electrophoretic, electromatographic separation device, or any combination thereof.

Miniaturized planar column devices (2) for use in liquid phase separation apparatus are described. The devices include microstructures that have been fabricated by laser ablation in a variety of novel support substrates. Devices formed according to the methods of the invention include associated laser-ablated features required for function, such as on-device reservoirs (16) or makeup flos compartments, analyte detection means and sample injection means. The miniaturized columns can be used in an apparatus intended for analysis of either small and/or macromolecular solutes in the liquid phase which employs chromatographic electrophoretic, electrochromatographic separation means. The apparatus can include a variety of optional injection means, manifolds, keeper means, post column collection means, and combinations thereof.
Abstract:
A method for treating a solid surface exposable to protein solutes is provided that reduces interactions of the protein solutes with the surface. Thus, a small bore capillary tube, useful for electrophoretic separation comprises a reduced interaction phase coated along the bore that includes a terminal moiety covalently bound in the reduced interaction phase through at least one heteroatom. This terminal moiety includes a plurality of halogen atoms, and preferably is an aryl pentafluoro.

Le procédé décrit, qui sert à traiter une surface solide pouvant être exposée à des solutés protéiniques, permet de réduire les interactions des solutés protéiniques avec la surface. On utilise à cet effet un tube capillaire de petit diamètre servant à la sépartion électrophrétique et comprenant une phase d'interaction réduite enduite le long de la paroi intérieure du tube et contenant une fraction de fin de chaîne liée par covalence dans la phase d'interaction réduite par au moins un hétéroatome. Cette fraction de fin de chaîne contient plusieurs atomes d'halogène et est de préférence constituée par un pentafluoroaryle.
