Abstract:
A load cell apparatus (100, 200, 300) for use with a structure (76, 86, 476) comprises a cell block (70, 370, 470) that flexes in response to an applied load and a transducer (142) that is adapted to measure a distance (160) acro ss a gap (162). In some embodiments, the gap (162) is defined between the transducer (142) and the structure (76, 86, 476), and in other embodiments, the gap (162) is defined between the transducer (142) and the cell block (70 , 370, 470).
Abstract:
A moisture management apparatus (e.g., an occupant support) includes one or more sensors to detect the presence of moisture. The apparatus may include material having hydrophobic properties and material having hydrophilic properties. Portions of the apparatus may be configured to direct moisture to a reservoir in the apparatus. One or more of the sensors may be located in the reservoir. The moisture management apparatus may be coupled to a patient support apparatus. The moisture management apparatus may communicate moisture alerts to a healthcare communication system. The moisture management apparatus may display moisture alerts on a user interface device.
Abstract:
One embodiment of a method of interrogating a sensor to detect the presence of moisture on an occupant support comprises the steps of A) providing a moisture responsive sensor in a surveillance zone of the occupant support, the sensor being tuned to a center frequency; B) exciting the sensor with an electromagnetic signal having a frequency approximately equal to the center frequency; C) monitoring for a center frequency response from the sensor; D) comparing the center frequency response to an expected center frequency response; and E) if the center frequency response compares favorably to an expected center frequency response, issuing a first output consistent with the favorable comparison.
Abstract:
Patient care equipment includes a wireless coupler that transfers power and/or data between an architectural unit and the patient care equipment. The patient care equipment may also include additional wireless couplers that transfer power and/or data between first and second components of the equipment. The second component may be movable relative to the first component. A structure or hot swapping batteries is also disclosed, the swapped battery being charged on an inductive charging mat.
Abstract:
A moisture management apparatus monitors an area for moisture events and wirelessly transmits moisture-related information to one or more notification devices. An embodiment of the moisture management apparatus includes a substrate and one or more sensors supported by the substrate. The sensor(s) emit wireless signals indicative of the moisture-related information. A sensor event communication system forwards the sensor signals to another device, such as a notification device. The sensor event communication system may monitor other types of patient events. Portions of the moisture management apparatus and/or the moisture event communication system may be embodied in a patient support apparatus, such as a bed.
