Abstract: The vehicle power train control method and apparatus according to the invention secures both operability and safety by controlling an actual acceleration/deceleration to a target acceleration/deceleration requested by a driver under safe traveling condition, and changing the target acceleration/deceleration so as to take precedence for safe traveling if the driver encounters a dangerous traveling condition. According to the invention, acceleration/deceleration and speed of a motor vehicle are detected; a target acceleration/deceleration is determined; and a road condition such as a road gradient or presence or absence of a forward motor vehicle is detected to decide whether the road condition is dangerous. The target acceleration is changed if the condition is decided to be dangerous.

Abstract: The invention relates to a vehicle speed control apparatus for allowing a host vehicle (1) trailing a preceding vehicle (2) to accelerate and decelerate without causing discomfort to the host vehicle driver. While the host vehicle (1) is trailing the preceding vehicle (2), the apparatus on board the host vehicle (1) stores the speed of the preceding vehicle (2) entering a curve ahead as well as a headway distance of the host vehicle (1) to the preceding vehicle (2). Upon reaching the curve, the host vehicle (1) is controlled by the apparatus to enter the curve at a speed not in excess of the stored speed of the preceding vehicle (2).

A signal for control of the speed (Vo) of the vehicle is generated (209) on the basis of the desired speed.

Abstract: In a control unit of an automotive vehicle, it is possible to securely prevent a tie-up due to a miss-recognition of a disengage timing of a disengage side friction device, securely prevent an early disengage due to an erroneous recognition of the disengage timing and realize a control of accurately and reliably shifting the clutch. Accordingly, a control unit of an automatic transmission having pressure adjusting command generating means which executes a shift by engaging and disengaging a predetermined friction device in an automatic transmission connected to an engine and adjusts a hydraulic pressure acting on the friction device at a time of the shift is structured such as to have disengage timing recognizing means which recognizes a disengage timing of a disengage side friction device at a time of shifting the automatic transmission, first disengage determining means which determines a disengage operation of the disengage side friction device on the basis of a result of recognition by the disengage timing recognizing means and second disengage determining means which forcibly determines a disengage operation of the disengage side friction device in the case that it is impossible to recognize the disengage timing in the disengage timing recognizing means. In this control unit, the pressure adjusting command generating means operates so as to disengage the disengage side friction device on the basis of determination of the first and second disengage determining means.

Abstract: A car has an auto gearbox and indicators for parameters like engine load, throttle flap angle, car speed and gear ratio. There is a storage unit for the engine characteristic, the torque converter characteristic and the fuel consumption characteristic. The drive torque before and after a proposed gear shift, a value for the fuel consumption rate and the shifting point are all calculated in real time using signals from the indicators and the storage unit. If the calculations satisfy certain conditions, a shifting signal is sent to the gearbox. If one of the indicator signals is greater than a threshold near the maximum value, the shifting signal is sent when the engine speed drops by a certain amount.
