Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a biaxially oriented copolyester film containing inert particles, wherein the copolyester is PENBB and wherein the inert particles are either generated in situ, added to the monomers before or during polycondensation or added to the PENBB before the film-forming process. Depending on the particular application, the film may have various thickness, may include pigment matter, and/or may be coated or surface treated. PENBB as mentioned herein is a copolyester containing units of formula (I).
Abstract:
The present invention comprises a two-layer biaxially oriented copolyester film useful for capacitor dielectrics. Such films have good winding characteristics, slipperiness, good mechanical properties, and excellent thermal stability. The two-layer biaxially oriented copolyester film comprises: (a) a two-layer biaxially oriented copolyester film, wherein at least one layer essentially consists of PENBB and which two-layer biaxially oriented copolyester film has a melting point sufficient to withstand a thermal treatment of about 260 °C for about 10 seconds or higher; and (b) an effective amount of one or more particulate materials uniformly dispersed in at least one layer of said two-layer biaxially oriented copolyester film sufficient to provide slip and good winding characteristics, whereby the average surface roughness Ra of one of said layers is ≤ 10 nm and that of the other layer is ⊃ 10 nm.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a mono- or multilayered, biaxially oriented film, wherein at least one layer essentially consists of PENBB and wherein at least one surface of the film is coated with an adhesive and/or optically active layer. This film has many advantages, including UV radiation stability, strength, transparency and low color, making it useful in optical, glazing and weathering applications. PENBB as disclosed herein is a copolyester containing units of formula (I).
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a biaxially oriented mono- or multilayer copolyester film wherein the two surfaces of the film have different surface roughness, characterized in that at least one layer essentially consists of PENBB and the first surface of the film has large protrusions with a diameter of 0.2 to 2 mu m and the second surface has either no protrusions or small protrusions with a diameter smaller than those of the large protrusions on the first surface. PENBB as mentioned herein is a copolyester containing units of formula (I).___________________________________________
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a biaxially oriented PENBB film for magnetic recording disks having low water absorption, low shrinkage and high modulus. The film typically is 60-100 microns thick. One surface of the film preferably is very smooth. PENBB as mentioned herein is a copolyester containing units of formula (I).
Abstract:
The invention deals with a coated biaxially oriented mono-or multilayered copolyester film, wherein at least one layer is composed of PENBB and wherein the coating contains a thermoplastic polymer.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an improved substrate film for magnetic tapes. The base film is a biaxially oriented PENBB film, i.e. a biaxially oriented copolyester film containing the structural unit (I) (bibenzoate, BB). Such particle containing films exhibit improved modulus in the machine and transverse direction and show surface protrusions such that their height crosses the line of log10 y = -18x + 3.7 twice.
Abstract:
The invention deals with a primer coated, biaxially oriented self-supporting, mono- or multilayer copolyester film, wherein the copolyester is PENBB and wherein the primer coating contains an acrylic polymer. PENBB is a copolyester containing units of formula (I).
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a biaxially oriented PENBB film having a surface modified to produce improved slip and/or improved adhesion to magnetic coatings. The surface modification includes particles, a continuous or discontinuous coating, or a combination thereof. In the PENBB of the invention the dicarboxylic acid derived repeating units include 25 mole percent or more of units derived from 4,4'-bibenzoic acid.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a primer coated, biaxially oriented self-supporting mono- or multilayer copolyester film, wherein the copolyester is PENBB and wherein the primer coating contains a vinyl acetate copolymer. PENBB is a copolyester containing units of formula (I).
