[Also in Group XL (b)] A travelling wave tube is included in the receiver arm 25 of a radar or like transmitterreceiver having a common duplexer (wave guide 18) and antenna so that received signals are amplified by the tube but transmitted pulses, by overloading it, are attenuated. Moreover, received signals are rotated through 45 degrees by a 45 degree twist coupler 21 transforming the waveguide from rectangular to circular and further rotated through 45 degrees by a Faraday rotator 24 so that, being parallel to a conductor plane 26 in the waveguide, they are reflected back to and are accepted by the receiver arm 25, but transmitted signals, being not affected by the plane 26, are substantially rejected by the branch arm 25. The rotations due to the rotator 24 and twist coupler 21 on the transmitter signal, however, both cancel out. An inclined conducting plane 27 eliminates signals whose orientation is not aligned with the coupler 21. In a modification the twist coupler 21 is replaced by a 45 degree Faraday rotator and the other rotator 24 arranged to produce an equal 45 degrees but opposite rotation between the transmitter input end 19 and the reflecting plane 26.
