Abstract: The invention comprises dispersion dyes of the formula:- or where R is hydrogen or a methylol group, mixtures of these dyes with each other and/or with unreacted diamino-dihydroxy-anthraquinone used in the manufacture thereof, and aqueous dispersions of the above dyes and mixtures. The dyes and mixtures are made by reacting 1 mol. of 4:8-diamino-1:5-dihydroxy-anthraquinone or 4:5-diamino-1:8-dihydroxy-anthraquinone or 1 mol. of a mixture of these two dyes dissolved in sulphuric acid with about 0,5 to 2 mols. of formaldehyde, if desired in the presence of phosphorus pentoxide, polyphosphoric acid or an aliphatic carboxylic acid amide or an N-monoalkyl derivative thereof, or a mixture of these compounds, in an amount of about 25 to 100% by weight calculated on the dye or dyes used and at a temperature from about -20 DEG to 70 DEG C. Examples are given. The dyes dye polyamides, cellulose acetate, cellulose triacetate and polyethylene terephtha late in blue shades from aqueous dispersion.
