Abstract: Process for purifying tert. fatty alkyl methylamines (A) comprises subjecting a liq. phase of (A) to a vacuum or flow of inert gas. Pref. (A) is heated to 10-200 (20-170) deg.C and a vacuum of 5-500 mbar is applied, or (A) is subjected to a flow of inert gas at either atmos. pressure or 5-500 mbar. A gas flow of 1-300 l per hr and per kg (A) is passed through (A). (A) is fatty alkyl dimethylamine prepd. by alkylation of dimethylamine with a fatty alcohol.
