Abstract: 1291529 Copper complexes of monoazo dyes FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 5 Aug 1970 [5 Aug 1969] 37813/70 Heading C4P Copper containing monoazo dyes have the general formula wherein R is an alkyl radical; n is an integer from 1-3 and X is a grouping of the formula -SO 2 -CH 2 -CH 2 -Z, where Z represents an organic radical capable of being split off by an alkaline agent, e.g. a bromine atom, a phosphato, sulphato or thiosulphato group, a dialkylamino piperidino, morpholino, acyloxy or phenoxy group. The dyes can be prepared by a variety of methods including reacting an azo compound of formula where R 1 is hydrogen, hydroxy or alkyl with an agent donating copper or by oxidative coppering; reacting a dye of formula with an acylating agent or reacting a monoazo dyestuff of formula with an alkylating agent. The dyes give violet or navy blue shades on natural or regenerated cellulose fibres, wool, silk or polyamide fibres, polyurethane, polyacrylonitrile and leather.
