    Abstract: Mixed chlorination products of low pressure polyolefines (e.g polethylene or polypropylene) and hydrocarbons are produced by suspending the polymer at a temperature below its softening point in a paraffinic and/or cycloparaffinic and/or aromatic hydrocarbon of at least six carbon atoms and which is liquid at the chlorination temperature used, or suspending in a chlorination product of such a hydrocarbon, and then chlorinating at a temperature above 70 DEG C., e.g. 90 to 130 DEG C. Specified hydrocarbons are paraffin wax, paraffin hydrocarbons of mineral origin or obtained by hydrogenation processes, toluene, xylene, napthalene, diphenyl, ditolyl. dixylyl, cumene, cymene, ethylbenzene, cyclohexane, methyl cyclohexane, pinene, carene, dipentene, limonene, menthane, tetrahydronaphthalene, decahydronaphthalene, hydrogenation products of the above, hexane, heptane, octane, nonane, decane, dodecane, tetradecane, hexadecane, octadecane, petroleum fractions, and hydrogenation products of carbon monoxide. In examples chlorinated derivatives of hydrogenation products of carbon monoxide are, inter alia, used. Inert diluents which may also be present are carbon tetrachloride, chloroform, and specified fluorochloroethanes. Catalytic influences such as light or azo- or peroxycompounds may be used and mixed products of chlorine content 40-80% may be obtained. One specified method comprises chlorinating the hydrocarbon alone to a certain extent before adding polymer. The products find application as rubber substitutes, lacquers, impregnating agents, plasticizers, and in the production of emulsions and adhesive and coating compositions.

    Abstract: A composition of a vinyl chloride polymer or copolymer containing more than 50% vinyl chloride and a chlorinated polyolefin having a chlorine content of 20-50% and which has been obtained by chlorinating a polyolefin having a reduced viscosity of not less than 0,5 determined in a 0,5% solution of the polyolefin in tetrahydronaphthalene at 120 DEG C. in the presence of water at above 90 DEG C. Comonomers specified are vinyl acetate, propionate, butyrate, stearate, vinylidene chloride and acrylic, methacrylic and maleic alkyl esters. While low pressure polyethylene and ethylenepropylene copolymer are the specified polyolefins. Specification 828,938 is referred to.
