Novel water-insoluble dyes of formula (wherein X is H, Cl or Br, E 1 is C 1-4 alkyl and R 2 is C 1-4 carboxylic acyl) are prepared by a conventional coupling reaction These dyes may be applied to synthetic fibres such as cellulose triacetate, cellulose - 2¢ - acetate, polyamide, polyurethane, and polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate. The dyes are said to colour polyester fibres navy blue or violet.
