Abstract: Synthetic materials are stabilised against ultra-violet light by addn. of a cyclic diphosphite of formula: where X is a 2-6C alkylene, opt. substd. by halogen, alkoxy or carbalkoxy, or a phenylene opt. substd. by >=1 halogen atoms, 1-5C alkyl or carbalkoxy, and Y is alkylene a 2-12C alkylene ether a phenylene opt. substd. by >=1 halogen atoms, 1-5C alkyl or carbalkoxy, or an alkylene-arylene in which the arylene gp. has 6C or 12C and the alkylene is 1-3C. (I) have better stabilising properties than known ultra-violet absorbents contg. OH gps. The synthetics are esp. (co)polymers of ethylene, propylene, butene and 4-methyl-1-pentene, or polystyrene.

Abstract: In filler-containing molding compositions a very good compatibility between the hydrophilic filler and the hydrophobic polymer matrix is obtained by using as adhesion promotor alkali metal salts of alkyl or alkylene-sulfonic acids or alkyl sulfates, the derivatives thereof and the acids on which the salts are based. The flow properties of the molding compositions and the mechanical properties of the shaped articles made therefrom are improved.

Abstract: In the case of polyolefins filled with alkaline earth metal carbonates, a very good compatibility of the hydrophilic filler and the hydrophobic polymer matrix is reached when using as adhesion promoters certain organo-phosphorus compounds. As a result, improved mechanical properties are obtained with the articles made of plastic material that has been prepared from such polyolefin molding compositions.
