A process for preparing a crosslinked polymer in the form of beads by copolymerizing vinyl acylate with a crosslinking agent and, if propriate, a further monomer copolymerizable with the vinyl acylate in ther presence of a dispersion medium and if desired partially or completely hydrolyzing the resulting polymer, wherein the crosslinking agent has the formulae see diagramm : EP0150350,P12,F1 and/or see diagramm : EP0150350,P12,F2 where R1 and R2 in the formula (I) can be identical or different and each denotes vinyl-, 1-acyloxyvinyl, allyl- or 2-acyloxyallyl, A represents a divalent hydrocarbon radical of 2 to 8 carbon atoms, B in the formula (II) stands for a divalent hydrocarbon radical of 1 to 8 carbon atoms and X denotes acyloxy, and the beads obtained have an average particle size of 10 to 800 mu m and an average pore diameter of 2 to 10,000 nm.
