Abstract: Spherical or elipsoidal Ca(OH)2 was heated in a down draft of gasses from a series of burners while moving on a travelling grate to produce a product suitable for the manuf. of CaC2. The Ca (OH)2 was fed onto the grate from a hopper and subsequently covered by a layer of granular calsite with particle size of 10-30mm whose thickness, less than 50% of the whole, should be increased with an increase of the size(10-40cm3) of the Ca(OH)2. The temp. of the top layer was 1,000-1,100≦̸C, and that of the gas leaving below 300-400≦̸C.

Abstract: Continuous drying of damp granular goods uses a burning gas at such a temp. that the temp. difference between the waste gas and dried goods is 150 - 200≦̸C pref. 180≦̸C. A part of the damp granular goods is formed into a vertically trickling layer and is dried by the waste gas of the rotating drum flowing through the layer. The pre-purified gas is fed to an electrostatic separator(17). The thickness of the layer and its cross section as well as the spectrum of the granules in the layer are chosen in such a way, that a reduced press. of 5 - 20 mm pref. 10 mm water column exists in the rotating drum(1).

Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the manufacture of desulfurizing agents containing 1-6% by weight of chemically bonded water, based on calcium oxide-containing calcium carbide, for crude iron and steel melts. To this end, a molten mixture of calcium carbide and calcium oxide with a CaO content of 20 to 80% by weight is produced, which is allowed to solidify into a block. Next, the block which still has an average temperature of more than 400 DEG C., is rough-crushed to particles with a size of less than 150 mm and calcium oxide is added to the comminuted mixture, which still has a temperature of at least 400 DEG C., in accordance with the CaO content desired in the end product. The mixture is finally ground in the presence of air or nitrogen with a moisture content of from 5 to 20 g/m3 (at 1.013 bar and 273.15 K) at temperatures below 100 DEG C. to particles with a size of less than 10 mm.
