Abstract: Process for the preparation of camphene by the rearrangement of .alpha.-pinene In the preparation of camphene by the rearrangement of .alpha.- pinene, the reaction time can be shortened by carrying out the rearrangement under reflux. The heat of reaction produced is eliminated by evaporative cooling. The composition of the reaction mixture can be controlled by monitoring the temperature towards the end of the reaction.
